Class

I have enjoyed this class even though it was challenging at times. I feel like I learned a lot especially with having to make a web page because I had never done that before. It was nice to be able to read what other people posted so I didn't feel like I was totally lost. Have a great summer!

Mrs. Dalloway

I have enjoyed reading Mrs. Dalloway so far. Even though it is very hard to keep up with who is who and who the one talking is. The characters are interesting and I'm ready to see what happens at this party. I'm also hoping that as I read more it will be easier to understand what is going on. Sometimes I'll be reading and wondering who in the world is this and where did they come from. I have had to go back and read things more than once. Other than that I've enjoyed the book.

Short Story

The short story that we read was kind of hard for me to understand. I didn't really see what the point in the story was. I didn't really understand what was going on with Gabriel during the story. He seemed like he was in a bad mood pretty much the whole time. Then he changed for like a minute and then he was back to his old self again. I will have to say that it wasn't my favorite.

Chances

Eliot's "The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock" reminded me of how important it is to take chances in your life. If everyday you do the same things over and over there isn't much of a chance that anything exciting will happen. If just once you step out of your comfort zone and take a chance, life could be different. Even if you get rejected or nothing big happens, at least you get a taste of what life could be like. Then maybe you will want more.

Nature

I really enjoyed reading "The Lake Isle of Innisfree". It made me think of how nice it is to be surrounded by nature sometimes. It made me think of going to the lake or anywhere that I don't have to worry about school or work. I think it is very important to get away from everyday life sometimes and just relax.

Great Expectations

Great Expectations is a pretty good book and I have enjoyed reading it. It's sad that people of a higher class treat others who aren't as fortunate as them like they are nothing. I didn't like how Pip treated Joe when he came to London. Pip seemed to be a little embarrassed of him and was only interested when Joe mentioned Estella. I don't understand how he could treat him that way when Joe had been pretty much the only person who was ever kind to him.

Great Expectations

This week I have enjoyed reading Great Expectations. I feel kind of bad for Pip. First his sister treats him like he's worthless and then Estella treats him the same way. If I was in his place I don't think I could be as strong as he is. I hope that something good comes from Pip going to school and becoming a gentleman.

Week 7

More poems! The poems weren't that difficult to understand this week. Except for the merman one. I really just had no idea what it was suppose to mean. The other two were fairly easy and I enjoyed reading them. When I read "The Last Duchess" I thought it was kind of sad that he could just treat his wife like something to be discarded. To him it wasn't a big deal. I guess it was that way because he knew that there would be another wife waiting for him and he could do the same to her if he wanted. I'm glad I didn't live back then!

More Poems

Well even though we are getting back to some poetry I feel better about interpreting them than I did the first time. Maybe they are just easier to understand this time or maybe I'm just not making it as hard as I did the first time. I am interested to see what the Victorian Age is all about. It seems to be happier and nicer than what we just studied.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein has been an interesting book. At times it was hard to get into and follow. But then it got easier. When I saw that we were going to be reading it I wasn't all that excited. In high school we attempted to read Frankenstein but my teacher decided that we weren't going to anymore. I don't know if it was because of our lack of interest and understanding of the book or if he just didn't want to read it anymore. I definitely like reading a book better than trying to interpret poetry. Well that is all for now!

Week 4

So this week has been very busy. I was happy there weren't any poems to interpret. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in Frankenstein. In my english class my senior year of high school we started reading Frankenstein. Then all of a sudden my teacher decided we weren't going to read it anymore and that was the end of it. It seems like it was harder to read and understand the first time. Well that's all for now have a great week!

3rd Week

Well this week I felt like I just got worse at interpreting the poems while everyone else got better. This is definitely not my area of expertise. I always wait till the last day to post anything hoping I can come up with something better. I read the poems over and over and still my answers are the same. I guess that I should be confident in my answers and not worry about what everyone else writes or how good they sound. This class is more of a challenge than I thought it would be, but that's a good thing. Hopefully my interpreting skills will improve by the end of the semester!

Poems

This week the poem I enjoyed the most was "When We Two Parted". One reason was because it was the easiest to read and understand. Another reason was because I felt I did a decent job of interpreting it and posting something that made sense. I liked the poem "Michael" too, eventhough my interpretation was lacking. " The Ancient Mariner" was by far the hardest to read and understand but I survived! Hope everyone has a great week!
